The department of Community Dentistry, has grown in stature
to its current position of excellence in community services
and academic training. The department has teaching
facilities for under graduate and post graduate students.
The department deals with community based preventive
programs. Outreach oral health camps are organized on all
working days of the week.
The rural dental clinic
in Hebri has four dental chairs and one in
Moodubelle has two dental chairs. Ultrasonic scalers are
also provided to the dentists working at the Moodubelle
clinic. The health services provided at these camps include
oral prophylaxis, restorations and exodontia. Patients
requiring extensive and/or complicated oral health
procedures are brought back to the College of Dental
Surgery, Manipal and referred to the concerned departments.
Special
camps are held on Sundays in remote, rural sectors. These
camps are attended by the faculty/residents/students from
the various disciplines of the profession. The average
patient turnout at these camps ranges from 60-1500 per camp.
These camps also include oral health education, oral
prophylaxis, restorative procedures and exodontia.
Importance is given to the preventive aspects of oral
health. All the services provided are free of charge.
