Department Overview

Forensic Medicine is the branch of medical science that applies medical knowledge to legal investigations and the administration of justice. The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology provides undergraduate teaching to MBBS students and postgraduate training leading to the MD degree in Forensic Medicine & Toxicology.

The department is actively involved in academic teaching, medico-legal services, forensic investigations, toxicological studies, and research activities. Students receive comprehensive training in medico-legal procedures, autopsy techniques, forensic pathology, clinical forensic medicine, and toxicology.

Departmental Museum

The museum houses an excellent collection of colored photographs, soft specimens, dry and wet specimens, bones, complete skeletons, firearms, weapons, histopathology slides, poisonous plants, chemicals, and toxicological specimens.

The exhibits are arranged systematically under various subject categories including Jurisprudence, Forensic Identity, Thanatology, Asphyxia, Trauma, Forensic Ballistics, Sexual Jurisprudence, and Toxicology. Facilities are also available for small-group practical teaching sessions.

Computer Facilities

Internet-enabled computer systems support literature searches, departmental documentation, and digital storage of medico-legal records for future reference.

Photography Facilities

Modern photographic equipment including DSLR cameras and digital video cameras are available for medico-legal documentation and forensic investigations.

Medico-Legal Services

The department provides expert medico-legal consultation, forensic examination, autopsy services, and toxicological investigations for legal authorities.
